GUIDELINE RIVOLT vs VISION HERO²
Among the 2026 newcomers, two Scandinavian-designed 9' #5 fly rods priced below €250 particularly caught our attention. In the following lines, we take a closer look at what these two models have to offer.
CONTENTS:
1. MEASUREMENT ANALYSIS
The Common Cents System protocol was used to characterise the power and action of these two rods.

1.1. POWER
In terms of power, 48 and 43 cents were required to bend these two rods over one third of their respective lengths.
With an ERN of 6.08, the Guideline RIVOLT proves to be more powerful than its official rating suggests and is in reality closer to a true #5/6. The Vision HERO², on the other hand, sits perfectly within its designated line class and is a genuine #5, with an ERN of 5.35.
1.2. ACTION
In terms of action, characterised by the Action Angle (AA), the Guideline features a distinctly fast action with an AA of 70°, while the Vision falls into the moderate-fast category with an AA of 65°.
1.3. BUILD QUALITY
Designed for traditional dry fly fishing and sight nymphing applications, both rods feature entirely conventional and very comparable component setups.

One detail worth mentioning is the relatively slim grip diameter of the Vision, measuring just 22 mm.

In terms of finishing details, both rods are equipped with a hook keeper as well as alignment dots on the sections.

1.4. FISHING COMFORT
When it comes to fishing comfort, these two rods are also very close to one another. The slight difference in PTE values is mainly linked to their respective power levels. Considering their price range, both rods perform extremely well.
Compared to rods of similar length and power, the PTE of the Guideline RIVOLT is identical to that of the JMC Passion G2 9' #4/5, while the Vision HERO² matches the Guideline Elevation 9' #5.
To achieve proper balance, both rods should ideally be paired with an empty reel weighing around 100 grams or slightly more.

Both rods are particularly well suited to dry fly fishing for larger trout
2. EDITORIAL VERDICT
As the new season approaches, many anglers are still searching for accessible tackle for traditional dry fly fishing, especially for the hatches of March Brown and Baetis that characterise the month of March. The two rods featured here position themselves perfectly within this segment, and both offer an excellent price-performance ratio.
Beyond subjective considerations such as cosmetics or personal preference for one brand or the other, the real difference between these two models lies in their respective power/action combinations.
With its true-to-rating power and moderate-fast action, the Vision Hero² is an exceptionally versatile 9' #5, capable of handling trout of all sizes in French and European rivers alike. If you are looking for a genuine all-round rod for a #5 line — one capable of fishing relatively fine during summer conditions, for example when sight nymphing, while still presenting a March Brown imitation on a 16/100 tippet at the start of the season — this is exactly the kind of rod that will do the job beautifully. Its moderate-fast action also helps reduce break-offs and lost fish during the fight.
The Guideline RIVOLT, on the other hand, is slightly more specialised. Its true #5/6 power, combined with a fast action, makes it a noticeably more powerful rod aimed at anglers who enjoy a faster casting tempo and/or those wishing to fish a #6 line to better cut through the wind, for example. It would also fit perfectly into a travel case bound for destinations known for large trout, such as New Zealand. Within this specific niche, it directly competes with the JMC Passion G2 9' #4/5, which covers very similar applications.
Choose wisely!
