AN EASY MEAL THAT FISH RARELY REFUSE
Caterpillars are another terrestrial food source that regularly ends up on the water by accident. Once adrift, they become an easy, protein-rich meal that trout and many other fish species are rarely willing to ignore. During the warmer months, they often form part of the natural diet of fish feeding close to overhanging vegetation.
These caterpillar patterns offer far more than excellent buoyancy. Their foam body keeps the fly riding confidently on the surface, while the carefully selected hackle fibres imitate the fine hairs of a real caterpillar and help the pattern sit naturally in the surface film. The high-contrast colour combinations also make the fly easy to track, even at longer distances or in broken water.
