Sighter for Euro Nymphing
With these Euro Nymph sighters you will be able to make perfect nymph drifts
Jmc's NYMPHIL is a nylon specifically designed for the realization of nymph fishing leader. The color continues to alternate from yellow to red over the entire length of the nylon making it extremely visible in all light conditions. Knowing where and how the fishing leaderis moving in the water is fundamental for a correct and effective fishing action. In addition, the excellent resistance to abrasion and knots of jmc NYMPHIL allows you to fish in complete tranquility even in extreme conditions.
With the NEON WAX SIGHTER indicator wax from skafars you can colour your leader quickly and individually at any point when you fly fish european nymphing style. The many available and clearly visible colours allow you to react quickly to changing light conditions and keep an eye on your leader during every drift. The markings can also be used as measuring points, so that you can offer your nymphs reliably and reproducibly at the desired depth. The colours are very easy to apply and can be wiped off with a paper tissue just as quickly without leaving any residue. The wax does not alter your leader in any way, it does not add weight and it does not change the floating properties.
EURONYMPH SIGHTERS
Sighters for Euronymphing are very different from traditional strike indicators for classic nymph fishing. The main difference lies in the fact that sighters for modern nymph fishing are much lighter and are often made exclusively from monofilament. This is because Euronymphing requires the lightest possible rig that offers no resistance either in the air or in the water. This would impair the natural drift of your nymphs.
The market offers very different models of Euronymph sighters - you can find them all in our online fly-fishing shop. The following variants are most commonly used:
- Bi- or tricoloured monofilament lines
- Czech Drops
- Microspiral
- Indicator waxes
BI- OR TRICOLOURED MONOFILAMENT
Probably the mostly used Euronymph sighter type is also the simplest. It is a multicoloured nylon monofilament in which complementary signal colours alternate at short intervals. In this way, the sighter forms a good contrast with any background and is optimally visible in all light conditions.
CZECH DROP
This Euronymph sighter also has a very simple design: Here too, a coloured nylon monofilament forms the base. Drops of coloured synthetic resin are put on the line at regular intervals and form sort of a bead chain. As a result, the sighter is highly visible and remains very light at the same time. However, problems can arise with this type of sighter if it is supposed to slide through the rod rings because the beads can cause annoying resistance.
MICROSPIRAL
The microspiral also consists of a simple piece of nylon that is twisted into a spiral to form a kind of spring. This visual aid was not developed for Euronymphing at short distances, although it is also suitable for this, but rather for fishing at long distances. The microspiral lies on the water like a classic strike indicator and its spring-like shape signals every take very well without offering resistance to the fish which could spook it.
INDICATOR WAXES
Coloured indicator waxes are increasingly being used as Euronymph sighters. They are very easy to apply to the leader and are highly visible in any situation thanks to their bright colours. Their advantage is that they are very easy to apply and remove, allowing the position of the sighter to be adjusted very flexibly on the leader without having to retie the rig.
WHAT EURONYMPH SIGHTERS ARE USED FOR
Sighters are fundamental when Euronymhing because they fulfil a number of basic tasks in modern nymph fishing. With the information that the sighter gives you, you can:
- see exactly where your tippet is at all times
- determine the exact moment when the nymphs start drifting off correctly
- estimate very precisely at what depth your nymphs are moving or the takes are coming
- estimate the speed of your nymphs in relation to the current
- feel a take even before you feel it in the rod
