GUIDELINE COASTAL CLASSIC WF FLY LINE

The Guideline COASTAL CLASSIC WF is the consistently refined successor to the legendary Coastal fly line, designed specifically for fly anglers fishing in coastal environments and under windy, cold conditions. With an improved taper, a new coating and a density-compensated head, it delivers excellent control, clean sinking behaviour and outstanding casting stability – making it ideal for modern coastal streamer fishing.

The line is exceptionally easy to cast, cuts efficiently through wind and offers impressive distance without sacrificing control or presentation. This makes it suitable for both beginners and experienced coastal anglers.

RETURN OF A CLASSIC

The original Coastal fly line quickly set a benchmark for coastal fly fishing. The new COASTAL CLASSIC builds on this proven concept and combines it with modern materials and carefully targeted refinements.

The core characteristics remain unchanged: excellent wind penetration, strong distance performance and a balanced, forgiving casting feel. Head length and taper layout ensure the line is easy and controlled to cast, regardless of experience level.

OPTIMAL DENSITY & DIRECT FEEDBACK

The COASTAL CLASSIC features a density-compensated head that ensures a uniform, straight sinking profile. Even though the tip is thinner than the belly, the entire head sinks evenly without hinging or sagging. This significantly improves contact with the fly and allows for more precise fly control.

Combined with the 6% low-stretch core, the line provides very direct feedback, making it easier to detect even subtle takes at distance. The new coating remains supple in cold conditions and shows very low memory, ensuring smooth line handling without tangles.

The COASTAL CLASSIC is available in two sink rates: Slow Intermediate (0.5 inch/s) for very shallow coastal areas and Fast Intermediate (1.5 inch/s) for fishing slightly deeper water.

PROVEN TAPER DESIGN – OPTIMIZED FOR WIND AND LONG CASTS

The COASTAL CLASSIC is based on the proven taper of the original Coastal fly line. Head length and weights remain true to the original design – preserving the familiar casting feel – while the profile has been refined in key areas.

The main update compared to the previous model is a back taper extended by 1 m, now measuring a total of 2 m. This significantly improves stability when carrying longer lengths of line in the air and enhances control and presentation on long-distance casts.

The level belly ensures efficient energy transfer, while the front taper is long enough for smooth presentations yet powerful enough to turn over larger coastal streamers in windy conditions. The total head length is 11.4 m, providing stable casting performance both in wind and at distance.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LINE WEIGHT FOR YOUR CASTING STYLE

When selecting the line weight, the following applies: if you prefer carrying the full head (or slightly beyond) in the air, choosing a line weight that matches your rod rating is ideal (e.g. #6 line on a #6 rod).

If you prefer a “quick load, quick shoot” style – fast loading, minimal false casting and quick line release – you can also choose one line weight heavier (e.g. #7 on a #6 rod). This provides more loading weight with less line outside the rod tip. Personal preference and rod model always play an important role.

WELL-THOUGHT-OUT DETAILS & SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

The COASTAL CLASSIC features a new, highly supple coating, is 100% phthalate-free and comes with factory-welded loops on both ends. An ID marking at the front allows for quick and easy identification.

Guideline also focuses on sustainability when it comes to packaging: the spool is made from PLA (plant-based material), and the box is made from recycled paper.
