The mechanism for retrieving the fly line is operated by a lever which that quickly and reliably spools up the previously released line when you lift the lever with your fingers. This way, when playing the fish it has to effectively work against the reel drag at all times and you do not need to release the loose line via your fingers. When reeling in the fish, the taut line is not retrieved in via the lever mechanism, but by hand. The semi-automatic mechanism only serves to spool the loose fly line back onto the reel quickly and easily and with simply pulling the lever with the fingers of the rod hand.
The large inner diameter of the spool arbor also contributes to the fact that more fly line is retrieved per spool revolution. In addition, it reliably counteracts the annoying memory effect of the fly line, so that it curls much less and can still be cast at a distance without much friction and effort, even after a long time on the fly reel. The OZONE BLACK is designed for line classes #3 to #6, whereby the fly reel, which is 35 mm wide and 85 mm in diameter, can hold approximately 50 m of 20lbs backing when using a WF fly line in class #5, for example.
Despite its semi-automatic design, the OZONE BLACK fly reel is surprisingly light. This is due to the fact that it is milled from a full block of aluminium, whereby unnecessary material has been removed from the spool as well as the reel frame and even the automatic lever itself by milling out and perforating, thus reducing the weight. Therefore, this semi-automatic fly reel weighs only 148 grams, like comparable standard fly reels. Besides, this open and minimalistic reel design also looks very elegant and modern. In addition, your fly line dries in no time on the airy spool.
The OZONE BLACK is also equipped with a high-quality and powerful drag system with carbon discs, which can be regulated very finely and precisely thanks to the micro adjustment. This allows you to optimally match the drag force to the load capacity of your leader, minimising the risk of line breakage even with thin tippets.
This two-tone champagne and black anodised premium fly reel comes in a neoprene reel bag. There is no need to switch from left-hand to right-hand operation with this type of reel, as it is equally suitable for both sides without conversion. A matching spare spool is available separately for the OZONE SILVER.
