DAYTONA SEMI AUTOMATIC

SEMI-AUTOMATIC FLY REEL FOR EURO NYMPHING

With the DAYTONA SEMI AUTOMATIC, Soldarini Fly Tackle offers a semi-automatic fly reel purpose-built for the demands of modern Euro nymphing. Its design focuses on straightforward line management and precise control, particularly when fishing with monofilament, dedicated ultra-thin Euro nymphing lines and fine tippets.

The DAYTONA is designed for fly anglers who fish at short to medium distances and want to retrieve loose line quickly, allowing them to concentrate on the drift and maintain contact with the nymph.

SEMI-AUTOMATIC RETRIEVE – ADDITIONAL MANUAL CONTROL

At the heart of the DAYTONA is its semi-automatic line retrieval system, activated by a centrally positioned operating lever. It lets you take up loose line quickly and easily – a practical advantage when Euro nymphing, where you often need to adjust the amount of line out throughout the drift.

The reel also features a spool-mounted knob, allowing you to retrieve line while playing a fish manually, without engaging the semi-automatic mechanism. This lets you adjust your retrieve speed directly to the fish’s movements, while the drag controls the release of line.

Note: The centrally positioned lever can be operated with either hand. However, the spool knob cannot be moved from one side to the other. The medium-sized reel is therefore also available in a version for left-handed anglers, with the spool knob on the right-hand side.

THREE REEL SIZES FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS

The DAYTONA features a large arbor spool. The large-diameter core supports fast line retrieval and helps reduce line coiling. The SIC ceramic line guide provides a smooth, low-friction surface and helps protect the line from abrasion.

The reel is available in three sizes with different line capacities. The smallest size is designed exclusively for fishing with monofilament or dedicated ultra-thin Euro nymphing lines.

In addition to these applications, the medium size accommodates WF fly lines up to #4 with ample backing. This makes it suitable for both Euro nymphing and conventional fly fishing with the corresponding line weights. This size is also available in the version for left-handed anglers, with the spool knob on the right-hand side.

The largest model accommodates a WF #5 line with ample backing. Its greater capacity is particularly useful for conventional fly fishing and provides extra room if the line is wound less evenly onto the spool during retrieval.

The finely adjustable drag starts smoothly and releases line evenly. When set to suit the breaking strain of your tippet, it helps protect even fine tippets from excessive strain while playing a fish.

PRECISION CNC MACHINING AND THOUGHTFUL ERGONOMICS

The DAYTONA is CNC-machined from 6061 aluminium and has a matt black anodised finish. This construction combines strength with low weight. The extra-long, ergonomically shaped operating lever is designed for modern fly rods with downlocking reel seats and is easy to reach.

The pre-balanced reel foot shifts the reel’s centre of gravity towards the rear. This supports a well-balanced setup, particularly when paired with longer Euro nymphing rods, and can help reduce hand fatigue during drift control.

The reel is supplied with a protective neoprene case.
