With the HYDROPSYCHE TOURNAMENT XUL rod series, Sandro Soldarini equips the most popular models of his proven Tournament range with a second rod tip. This allows you to cover a very wide spectrum within Euro Nymphing using just one rod – from ultra-thin fly lines and pure monofilament setups to the smallest nymphs and finest tippets, which you can guide with exceptional sensitivity and precision. With this series, Sandro once again sets new standards in terms of feedback, finesse and precision – perfect for high-level Euro Nymphing. Thanks to a modern blank construction, an innovative tip system and premium components, this rod meets the expectations of both experts and ambitious anglers alike.

HIGH-END BLANK TECHNOLOGY FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE

The HYDROPSYCHE TOURNAMENT XUL is based on an innovative construction method in which eight different high-modulus carbon fiber types are used. These are not processed lengthwise or crosswise, as in classic rod building, but arranged in a special 45° mounting system. This creates an X-shaped structure that provides exceptional torsional stability and ensures precise, controlled casting.

Combined with state-of-the-art resin systems (Radial Carbon), this results in an extremely slim, lightweight and highly sensitive blank without compromising strength or durability. This construction minimizes unwanted vibrations, transfers takes directly into the grip and creates an ideal balance between sensitivity and power – even when fighting larger fish on the finest tippets.

TWO TIPS FOR TWO APPLICATIONS

A central feature of the XUL series is the included second tip section. In addition to the regular hollow tip, each rod comes with a so-called Solid Tip – a continuous, solid carbon insert that is particularly fine and flexible.

This Solid Tip is extremely sensitive and reacts even to minimal pressure. It works perfectly with the weight of the smallest nymphs and reliably indicates subtle contacts with the riverbed. The advantages are numerous:

Maximum bite detection: Every impulse is transmitted instantly and without distortion.
Delicate presentation: The smallest patterns can be placed precisely at distance – ideal for selective fish.
Tippet-friendly: The soft tip absorbs shocks and runs smoothly, reducing the risk of breaking the finest leaders.

Important: The Solid Tip is best suited for use with monofilament line. Even very thin Euro Nymph lines (e.g. 0.55 mm diameter lines) are already too heavy for optimal performance. In these cases, the standard tip is recommended, as it offers a more direct recovery and works perfectly with conventional Euro Nymph fly lines.

IDEAL FOR DEMANDING SITUATIONS

The TOURNAMENT XUL is available in two models – both perfectly tailored for delicate nymphing with thin tippets and light patterns. The rod lengths of 10'6" and 11' ensure excellent drift control and a natural presentation of the nymph – even in challenging currents. Thanks to their low weight, both versions can be fished fatigue-free for many hours, which is essential during competitions or long days on the water.

PREMIUM COMPONENTS FOR MAXIMUM DURABILITY AND PERFORMANCE

For the components, Sandro Soldarini relies exclusively on premium materials: The Flor Grade cork grip is complemented by a compact fighting butt made of rubberized cork, which supports the rod comfortably against the forearm and ensures relaxed, controlled handling. In addition, an elegant aluminium reel seat with carbon spacer and down-locking function improves the balance, especially on longer rods.

The guides are made from a flexible nickel-titanium alloy (Recoil Guides) that can flex under pressure without breaking. They are corrosion-resistant and minimally affect the blank's action. The Sea Guide stripping guide ensures optimal line flow and minimal friction.

SAFE AND PROTECTED TRANSPORT

The rod comes with a rod sleeve and a rigid rod case with a full-length zipper – ideal for transport, storage and everyday use on the water.
