XLV NYMPH FLY REELS
PERFEKT FOR MODERN NYMPH FLY-FISHING
As part of the XLV fly reel family, the XLV NYMPH models also have most of the same technical properties and features as the other reels in this series. These high-quality reels are made of aluminium with an anodised surface and are CNC-milled from a solid block. As modern large arbor reels, they have an extra-large spool diameter and are equipped with the same powerful drag system, which starts up silky smooth and works reliably. Of course, also here all moving parts are lubricated with SKF's water-repellent bearing grease. The design has been largely retained, apart from the colour. In addition, these models also feature the EVA reel knobs, which are comfortable to grip and non-slip even when wet.
The big difference lies in the reel frame. On the XLV NYMPH models, this is closed and thus forms a kind of "cage" for the thin Euronymph lines or the monofilament lines used in modern nymph fishing. This prevents these fine lines from accidentally getting between the spool and reel frame, where they can wrap around the reel axle and jam the reel.
THE INDIVIDUAL MODELS
XLV NYMPH #4/5: The smaller of the two models still has very large dimensions with an outer reel diameter of 95 mm. Monofilament or fly lines are laid evenly thanks to the narrow spool. The Ultra large arbor design ensures a very high line retrieve per turn of the spool. This spool design influences also the capacity of this fly reel, which can hold a WF #4 and 40 m of 20 lbs backing. However, this is more than sufficient for Euronymphing with ultra-thin 0.55 mm fly lines or monofilament lines.
XLV NYMPH & DRY #5/6: This model can be used equally well for modern nymph fishing and dry fly fishing. The outer reel diameter of this model increases to a full 105 mm. Thanks to the extremely narrow spool and the ultra-large arbour design, the capacity is a WF #5 and 50 m 20 lbs backing. The weight of this reel perfectly balances the slightly longer Euronmyph fly rods. The reel drag is primarily designed for smoothness and less for maximum braking force, so that it optimally protects the fine tippets that are typically used for Euronymphing.
