With the BOXER fly reel from Hotfly we offer a compact fly reel that is primarily designed for very thin fly lines, such as those used in European nymphing.
The BOXER has been CNC machined from a solid block of 6061 aluminium and is very cleanly finished. All edges are perfectly rounded and the tolerances between the parts of the reel are kept to a minimum, the surface is anodised. Due to the material used, it is very light at only 93 grams, and therefore does not fatigue your rod arm during the concentrated guiding of the drift, but on the other hand, the BOXER is also very solidly constructed and robustly built. Due to its size, it is designed for freshwater use.
Even compact fly reels do not have to do without a good reel drag, as the BOXER proves with its reliably working and finely adjustable drag, which is equipped with sufficient braking power to stand up to even larger fish.
Compared to other fly reels with classic spool design, the BOXER has an enlarged diameter of the spool arbor despite its reduced dimensions, which clearly counteracts the annoying memory effect of the wound lines. This of course also influences the line carrying capacity, which in terms of classic fly lines is an AFTMA class #1 (DT) or class #2 (WF) and around 10 m of additional 20-lbs backing. However, the actual purpose of this reel is fly fishing with extremely fine fly lines, as they are generally used in European nymphing. And the capacity of this reel is absolutely sufficient for this.
The fly reel BOXER has a fixed crank direction and is therefore offered in a left-handed and right-handed version:
- Fly reel hotfly BOXER - left: In the left-hand version, the reel handle is operated counterclockwise with the left hand to reel in line. The fly rod is held in the right hand.
- Fly reel hotfly BOXER - right: In the right-hand version, the reel handle is operated clockwise with the right hand to reel in line. The fly rod is held in the left hand.
