ELK HAIR DUBBING NATURAL

NATURAL ELK HAIR FOR LARGE DRY FLIES AND BULKY PATTERNS

ELK HAIR DUBBING NATURAL is a natural dubbing made from the same selected elk hair used for hotfly hair patches. The fibres are considerably coarser and more structured than finer materials such as chamois hair, allowing you to create bulky, open bodies and thoraxes with plenty of protruding fibres. This makes it particularly useful whenever you want a prominent, clearly defined silhouette rather than a compact, uniform surface.

These characteristics make ELK HAIR DUBBING NATURAL particularly suitable for large searching dry flies, substantial Terrestrials and other surface patterns. The volume is easy to control by varying the amount of material: a moderate quantity produces structured thoraxes with free fibres, while using more dubbing creates considerably fuller bodies for larger patterns.

USE IN A DUBBING LOOP TO MAXIMISE VOLUME AND STRUCTURE

To distribute the fibres effectively, ELK HAIR DUBBING NATURAL is particularly well suited to the dubbing-loop technique. Place the required amount of hair in the dubbing loop and secure it by twisting. The resulting fibrous dubbing brush can then be wrapped around the hook to create a three-dimensional, irregular silhouette.

After wrapping, you can leave the fibres protruding for a more open, bushy profile or trim them to gain greater control over shape and proportions. This makes the material useful not only for the bodies and thoraxes of large dry flies, but also for mouse patterns, Poppers and other surface flies where substantial volume and a pronounced structure are required.

BRIGHT NATURAL AND DARK NATURAL

ELK HAIR DUBBING NATURAL retains the natural shades of elk hair and is available in two assorted selections: Bright Natural, combining the lighter natural shades, and Dark Natural, featuring darker tones. The natural colour variations within the fibres help create less uniform-looking bodies and allow you to choose the most suitable shade for the pattern without using dyed hair.
