TUNGSTEN WEIGHTS
In all shapes and sizes to efficiently weight your nymphs and streamers
Tungsten offers major advantages as a weighting material in fly tying. Thanks to its extremely high density – almost twice that of lead – flies can be weighted very efficiently without becoming bulky. This keeps fly patterns slim and gives them a much more natural appearance. Tungsten-weighted flies sink very quickly and easily reach deeper sections of the water where fish are often feeding. This allows for more precise presentations and more effective fishing. In addition, tungsten is non-toxic, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional lead weights. The material is also highly durable and resistant to wear, which helps justify its slightly higher price. With tungsten weights, you can tie modern, perfectly balanced and highly effective fly patterns.
TUNGSTEN BEADS & TUNGSTEN BODIES FOR FAST-SINKING NYMPHS
MAXIMUM WEIGHT IN A COMPACT SIZE
Tungsten beads have become one of the most important materials in modern fly tying. Whether you tie Euro nymphs, traditional nymphs or heavily weighted jig patterns, hardly any other material allows you to create flies that are both compact and exceptionally fast sinking. Thanks to their high density, nymphs reach the desired depth quickly and drift far more naturally through the productive zone close to the riverbed.
Our range includes a wide selection of tungsten beads, slotted tungsten beads, tungsten coneheads and innovative tungsten bodies for a wide variety of fly-tying techniques. Particularly popular are our Jig-Off Tungsten Beads for jig hooks and the Javi Nymph Bodies, which make it easy to tie highly realistic and extremely effective nymph patterns with outstanding consistency.
WHY TUNGSTEN OUTPERFORMS OTHER MATERIALS
The greatest advantage of tungsten is its exceptionally high density. At approximately 19.3 g/cm³, tungsten is around 70% heavier than lead and approximately 120% heavier than brass. As a result, a tungsten-weighted nymph reaches the target depth considerably faster than an otherwise identical fly tied with brass or lead.
In fast-flowing rivers or deep pools, sink rate often determines whether a nymph reaches the fish at all. Tungsten makes it possible to add substantial weight without increasing the fly's size or compromising its natural proportions.
A KEY TO SUCCESSFUL NYMPH FISHING
Trout, grayling and many other salmonids feed predominantly close to the riverbed, where most aquatic nymphs drift naturally during their development or shortly before hatching. The faster an artificial nymph reaches this feeding zone and drifts naturally through it, the greater the chances of success.
For this reason, tungsten beads have fundamentally changed modern nymph fishing. They make it possible to weight even very small flies tied on size #16, #18 or even smaller hooks without altering their realistic profile. Especially in Euro nymphing and other contact-style techniques, tungsten beads have become an indispensable standard.
THE RIGHT TUNGSTEN WEIGHT FOR EVERY FLY
Different fly patterns require different tungsten components. Standard tungsten beads are ideal for traditional nymphs, while slotted tungsten beads are specifically designed for jig hooks, ensuring optimal hook balance. Tungsten coneheads add extra weight to streamers while creating an attractive jigging action. Pre-shaped tungsten bodies make it easy to create highly realistic fly profiles while significantly reducing tying time.
PREMIUM QUALITY AT A FAIR PRICE
We source our tungsten beads and tungsten bodies directly from one of the world's leading manufacturers, purchasing in large quantities without unnecessary intermediaries. These are the very same components used in the production of many of our own flies. This allows us to offer consistently high quality, precisely machined bores, flawless finishes and outstanding value for money – from classic tungsten beads to innovative specialist bodies.
