Markus is an enthusiastic angler with a fishing career that has always focused on experimentation. Technically versatile, he came to fly fishing via different techniques such as spinning, sabiki and sbirolino. Since 2003, he has dedicated himself exclusively to the fly, which has become his great passion. A classic salmonid angler due to his origins, he is particularly fond of dry-fly fishing, preferring to fish actively with attractor patterns in medium and small waters. He prefers to use a 9' #5 and a crisp 7'6 #3, with which he feels most comfortable on his fishing adventures. But he can also warm to the classic nymph, especially at the beginning of the year when the conditions for dry-fly fishing are not yet ideal. In bad weather and correspondingly high and murky water, however, the streamer is his first choice — a technique that is enjoyable and productive when the conditions are right.

Markus, born in ’79, lives in Brixen in beautiful South Tyrol and is characterised above all by two personality traits: he is a boundless optimist who knows his own limits. Moreover, he also has a good-natured attitude paired with down-to-earth modesty — typical qualities that also characterise the Tyrolean Grey cattle 😉, a local breed perfectly adapted to harsh conditions and known for its resilience.

Markus founded the company back in 2008 and owes this new adventure to a coincidental and, in hindsight, fortunate turn of events. Initially purely as a side project to his main job at the time, the new venture grew so strongly that his full commitment was required from 2012 onwards.

As the company owner, he is responsible for the overall management of the business and its strategic development. He takes care of product selection, process optimisation and resource planning to ensure that everything is always available and in perfect condition. He is also deeply involved in the product development within the Hotfly brand and accompanies every step, from the initial idea to the finished product, working closely with the various producers to develop prototypes and test innovative solutions in practice. In addition, he oversees strategic purchasing and provides customer advice to ensure that every angler finds the perfect equipment for their needs.
