Synthetic Quill has made tying flies much easier and is now one of the standard fly tying materials. The TAPERED SYNTHETIC QUILL from Hotfly adds two more practical features to the many advantages of regular synthetic quill, making tying even more comfortable, faster and easier:
- the conical cut of the individual strips
- the self-adhesive foil
On the one hand, the conical cut of this quill makes it easier for you to tie in the thinner part of the quill strip at the lower end of the hook shank. By overlapping the strip and winding it around the hook shank towards the front, you perfectly reproduce the segments of the abdomen, because the conical shape makes the individual segments wider and wider towards the middle of the body, just like the real insect.
So that the abdomen also becomes thicker towards the front, use the tying thread to build up an under body that becomes thicker towards the hook eye before you wrap the TAPERED SYNTHETIC QUILL on top. Of course, the self-adhesive foil helps a lot here to attach the quill strips precisely without the individual wraps slipping.
The TAPERED SYNTHETIC QUILL consists of 20 individual strips, in many different colour combinations, to imitate as wide a range of insects as possible. The individual strips are each 10 cm long and are just under 1 mm wide at the narrower end and are a good 2 mm wide at the other end.
