SPINFLY FLIES WITH BARBED HOOKS – DRY FLIES FOR SPINNING TACKLE
SURFACE FISHING WITH A SPINNING ROD IN A WHOLE NEW WAY
Not every rising trout can be fooled with a spinner, spoon or small plug. During insect hatches or whenever terrestrial insects regularly fall onto the water, trout often ignore conventional lures and focus almost exclusively on natural prey drifting on the surface. Spinfly flies were created specifically for these situations, combining the lifelike appearance of a floating dry fly with the casting performance required for ultralight spinning tackle.
This allows spinning anglers to fish with highly realistic insect imitations without the need for a traditional fly rod or fly line. On small rivers, streams and crystal-clear trout waters, Spinfly opens up an entirely new approach whenever fish are feeding confidently from the surface.
THE IDEA BEHIND SPINFLY
The name Spinfly was introduced by Italian angler Roberto Cazzola, who presented the concept to a wider audience in 2010. His ambition was to develop dry flies that could be cast effectively with modern ultralight spinning equipment while preserving the delicate presentation and natural behaviour that make dry-fly fishing so effective.
The result is a unique fishing method that combines the accuracy and convenience of light spinning tackle with the realism of a carefully presented floating insect imitation.
WHAT MAKES SPINFLY FLIES DIFFERENT
Traditional dry flies are virtually weightless. In fly fishing, the fly line provides the casting energy, while the fly simply follows its path through the air. A spinning outfit works on a completely different principle, requiring the lure itself to carry enough weight for an accurate and controlled cast.
Spinfly flies are specifically engineered to solve this challenge. Highly buoyant materials such as foam keep the fly floating naturally, while precisely balanced internal weighting provides the casting mass needed for spinning tackle. The result is a fly that casts cleanly, lands softly and retains a convincing natural silhouette on the water.
BARBED HOOKS FOR A SECURE HOOK HOLD
The flies in this category are tied on premium barbed hooks. They are intended for waters where barbed hooks are permitted and offer excellent hook retention, especially when fighting powerful trout or fishing in fast currents.
They are an excellent choice for anglers who prefer traditional hooks or regularly fish waters without barbless regulations. If you mainly fish catch-and-release waters or fisheries where barbless hooks are mandatory, you will also find our dedicated barbless Spinfly flies.
DESIGNED FOR SELECTIVE SURFACE-FEEDING TROUT
Whether trout are feeding during an intense mayfly hatch, sipping fallen beetles or targeting drifting terrestrial insects throughout the summer, Spinfly flies come into their own whenever fish become highly surface-oriented. They allow spinning anglers to present an insect imitation with exceptional realism while exploring an exciting and highly specialised fishing technique.
PREMIUM MATERIALS – BUILT FOR REAL FISHING CONDITIONS
Our Spinfly flies with barbed hooks are tied from carefully selected materials and specifically designed for the demands of this innovative technique. Premium tying materials, perfectly balanced construction and high-quality hooks ensure reliable buoyancy, excellent casting performance and a convincing natural presentation whenever trout are feeding on the surface.
