MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL

HIGHLY MOBILE TAILS FOR STREAMERS AND SMALL BAITFISH IMITATIONS

MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL are soft chenille tails measuring approximately 9 cm, designed to give your streamers an exceptionally mobile, undulating tail. Their gradually tapered shape creates a long, slender silhouette without the need to build up the tail using several different fly-tying materials.

This version is particularly well suited to small and medium-sized streamers designed to imitate a variety of baitfish. Its relatively short length allows you to maintain balanced proportions even on smaller flies, while still providing a clearly defined tail that moves freely during the retrieve.

UNDULATING MOVEMENT THAT COMES ALIVE DURING PAUSES

The real strength of MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL becomes apparent in the water. Their soft, flexible structure responds continuously to changes in the streamer's speed, producing a flowing, undulating tail action. This effect is particularly noticeable when you alternate the retrieve with pauses and sudden accelerations, allowing the tail to continue moving as the fly slows down or picks up speed again.

By simply changing your retrieve, you can significantly alter the action of the same streamer. Strips, accelerations and pauses all make the tail behave differently, giving the fly a lively, constantly changing profile in the water.

EASY TO TIE IN AND ADAPT TO YOUR STREAMER

MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL can be attached quickly and easily using the chenille's central braided core. For a neater tie-in, remove the outer fibres from a few millimetres at the base to expose the braid, then use this section to secure the tail firmly to the hook shank. A small drop of acrylic glue at the tie-in point helps reinforce the attachment.

If 9 cm is too long for the streamer you are tying, the tail can be trimmed to the desired length. After cutting, it is advisable to seal the new end with a small amount of acrylic glue or, with great care, by applying just enough heat to lightly melt the fibres together. This helps keep the tip intact and reduces the risk of the chenille fraying or unravelling, particularly after repeated strikes from predatory fish.

WATER ABSORPTION IS ALSO WORTH CONSIDERING

The chenille structure of MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL absorbs water during use. This is worth considering when designing your streamer: the amount and length of material should be appropriate for the fly rod and fly line you intend to use.

For this reason, the 9 cm version is a particularly interesting choice when you want to take advantage of the characteristic movement of a Dragon Tail without necessarily tying a large streamer. You can use it at its original length or trim it to match the profile of the baitfish you want to imitate.

A WIDE RANGE OF COLOURS FOR DIFFERENT BAITFISH PATTERNS

MANGUMS DRAGON TAILS – SMALL are available in a wide range of colours, allowing you to tie both natural-looking small baitfish imitations and streamers featuring more pronounced contrasts and brighter colours. Each pack contains 3 tails.
