MODERN LARGE ARBOR FLY REEL WITH EXCELLENT PRICE-PERFORMANCE RATIO

The fly reel EURO FLY from Hotfly Superb is an innovative and high-quality reel that is equally well suited for euro nymphing as well as for all types of fine fly fishing. This reel is based on the concept of the very successful Euro Fly Pro fly reel. In terms of dimensions, however, it is somewhat more compact. But to call it the "little sister" of the Euro Fly Pro does not do justice to the EURO FLY reel. With its outer diameter of 85 mm, it has all the advantages of modern large arbor fly reels.

TWO FLY REELS IN ONE

The very clever modular fly reel design with a universal reel frame and two differently designed interchangeable spools has also been retained for the EURO FLY. The two spools have different inner diameters and therefore different line capacities. Due to the different spools, you effectively cover the entire spectrum of applications for fly lines from AFTMA #0 to #5 with only one fly reel. And always with a spool that offers you the largest possible inner diameter and all the associated advantages, depending on the selected line class:

• The larger the spool arbor, the more line you can reel in per turn of the spool. This allows for better and more efficient line management. You can reel in slack line much faster during fly fishing and run much less risk of getting on the line or tangling it on rocks or bank vegetation. Especially on a take it is important to reel in the slack line as fast as possible in order to play the fish over the reel. On the one hand, this allows you to make better use of the reel brake. On the other hand, especially when using ultra-thin fly lines or monofilament euro nymph lines, playing the fish via the fly reel is much more pleasant than retrieving with the fingers.
• Another advantage of spools with the largest possible inner diameter is the minimisation of the so-called memory effect. Especially the classic fly lines tend to curl when stored on small spools for a long time. Not least, the casting distance suffers from this. A large spool core, alternatively, counteracts this annoying curling of the line.

THE RIGHT SPOOL FOR EVERY TECHNIQUE

Although the dimensions of the EURO FLY reel have been reduced compared to the larger Euro Fly Pro, the comparable spools have the same capacity. This is made possible by a usable inner width that has been increased by only 2 mm to a total of 20 mm. This makes this fly reel with its interchangeable spools suitable for a very wide range of applications. In addition, it still benefits from a comparatively narrow spool, which makes a cleaner and better laying of the line on the spool possible.

The two spools of the EURO FLY reel are specifically designed for different fly-fishing applications:

• The spool in super large arbor (SLA) design for line classes #0/1 has an effective inner diameter of 60 mm. This makes this spool predestined for euro nymphing, where typically ultra-thin fly lines or monofilament lines are fished. The capacity of this spool is easily sufficient for both line types.
• The spool for line classes #2/5 still has an inner diameter of 45 mm and thus corresponds to a fly reel with large arbor (LA) design. This means that there is enough space for a fly line up to WF #5 and sufficient backing on this replacement spool. In this spool option, the EURO FLY reel is ideal for all fine fly fishing with the dry fly, but also for classic nymph fishing. And even for fly fishing with small and light streamers on the #5 rod this fly reel is still perfectly suitable.

The change from one spool to the other is very easy and works exactly as you are used to it from your other fly reels:

• loosen the central locking screw on the crank side of the fly reel
• pull off the spool and put on a replacement spool
• tighten the locking screw again
• that's it!

You can also convert this fly reel from right-handed to left-handed operation in just a few steps.

BEST MATERIALS, HIGH QUALITY WORKMANSHIP, ELEGANT DESIGN

The EURO FLY reel is a first-class fly reel for which only the best materials are used and impeccably crafted. The reel cage and the spools are milled from a solid block using CNC technology. The use of 6061-T6 aluminium creates a light but at the same time very solid fly reel. Moreover, the generous milled out areas on all spots, where it is irrelevant for the stability of the fly reel, help to save unnecessary weight. In this way, this fly reel remains pleasantly light and weighs less than 140 grams in both versions. This allows the light but somewhat longer euro nymph fly rods to be balanced just as well as the fly rods for classic fly fishing.

On the one hand, the closed reel frame contributes to the stability and torsional rigidity of the fly reel. On the other hand, this frame construction also prevents monofilament lines, which are often used in euro nymphing, from accidentally jumping off the reel.

The EURO FLY reel is equipped with a very reliable and powerful reel drag. The drag can be adjusted very finely by means of a micro-grid. The carbon fibre drag washers ensure that the drag starts smoothly and without jerks. The very large, knurled adjustment wheel makes the drag easy to operate even with wet or clammy fingers.  

This fly reel was developed entirely in Italy. Not only the technical aspects and the performance of the EURO FLY were taken into account, but also the aesthetics. The metallic blue anodised surface looks noble and elegant. Depending on the incidence of light, the fly reel also shimmers slightly purple. The airy design not only reduces weight, but also gives this fly reel a modern appearance.
