The 444 SYLK DT fly line from Cortland has been specially developed for use on classic splitcane fly rods made of bamboo, which are traditionally fished with fly lines made of silk. However, as these natural lines require a lot of care and are not quite cheap, the 444 SYLK DT as a synthetic fly line is a suitable alternative for everyday use but still gives you the feeling of casting a silk line.
This impression is conveyed by the very soft and supple feel of this fly line, that is built on a line core of braided nylon monofilament, but also due to its very fine diameter. Moreover, the gently graduated line profile with long tapers on both sides (DT profile) and finely level tips are reminiscent of the properties of a silk fly line. This allows for harmonious casting sequences, beautifully shaped loops and even transmission of the casting impulse, so that the leader rolls off nicely and stretches all the way to the attached fly. In this way, the 444 SYLK DT allows you to cast with feeling as well as delicate and precise presentations of your flies at short and medium distances.
The floating fly line is 27.5 m long, and the colouring is based on an oiled silk line. It also has a welded loop at one end of the line. This allows you to quickly and easily connect your leader loop-to-loop. If, on the other hand, you want to fix your leader to the fly line with a very discreet nail knot, you can simply turn the double tapered fly line around. This option also doubles the life of your fly line, and you can still use it if one side has become worn and brittle after intensive use.
The Cortland 444 SYLK DT is designed for enjoyable relaxed fishing with dry flies and small nymphs and is not only great choice with classic bamboo rods, but also performs very well on fibreglass and carbon rods. As one of the few fly lines on the market, the 444 SYLK is also offered in the ultra-fine line classes down to the DT #2 F variant.
