Description

The KAIMAN is equipped with excellent technical features and is definitely positioned in the medium-high range between the fly tying vise produced by Stonfo. What is immediately striking at first sight is certainly the big tempered steel clamp which is able to have an extreme grip, and when I say extreme I am not exaggerating. Its profile, with its very clever design, allows you to work effectively on both very small hooks of 28 and big saltwater hooks of 5/0. In order to firmly lock large hooks, a small housing has been created in the jaws of the vise, inside which the hook's curvature must be positioned (FIG.1).

To open and close the powerful KAIMAN jaws, a certain pressure must be exerted on the big ergonomic lever located between the two jaws of the vise (FIG.2). This system is really practical because it allows you to position and reposition the hook very quickly. Moving the lever, the jaws opens and releasing it, the jaws closes. There is no need to make any further adjustments and each time you are guaranteed an exceptional grip on the hook.

WARNING: Due to the very high clamping force of this plier, it is strongly discouraged to place the hook too much at the end of the tip of the plier because you could risk chipping it.

The correct working position of Stonfo's KAIMAN vise is with the lever pointing downwards. In this way you will find yourself having to tie your dressings necessarily with your right hand. However, if you are left-handed you can position the lever on the opposite side. To do this, simply take the small Allen key from the package and loosen the bolt shown in the photo (FIG.3). Once this is done you can remove the lever and reposition it on the other side of the plier (FIG.4).

The head of the vise can be tilted according to your needs (FIG.5), just act with the large Allen key in the package on the appropriate bolt. The cylinder in which the clamp jaws are housed (FIG.6 - A) has been obtained from a single block of stainless steel and is mounted on precision bearings that allow a very smooth 360° rotation. A double diameter handwheel (FIG.6 - B) has been made to facilitate this rotation.

The 360° rotation of the plier can be modulated through the drag knob and allows 3 different adjustment modes: free, medium block and total block.

Free: by loosening the drag knob as much as possible, the hook will be completely free to rotate 360° without any friction.

Medium lock: By tightening the drag knob at half stroke the hook will always be free to rotate 360° but it will lock in the 0° position and in the 180° position (FIG.7). To unlock it from these two positions and continue with the rotation, simply apply a little more force.

Total lock: By fully tightening the drag knob, the hook will lock in the chosen position.

Although at first glance the base may seem identical to those of the Stonfo low end vises, in reality it presents a very interesting difference because the cylinder inside which the vise bar (FIG.8 - C) is inserted has a longer length. This means that the height adjustment is much wider than the standard. For the rest there are no substantial differences, in fact we always find the 2 comfortable material-holder niches and the practical anti-slip feet that guarantee maximum stability during fly tying.

The dimensions are very small and when disassembled it takes up very little space, allowing you to store it easily in a drawer or travel bag.

Included in the package is a practical spring material clip which is very easily mounted on the clamp jaws (FIG.9). Basically it is used to move from the work area the tying thread, hackles or any other fly tying material that you want to remove momentarily to be freer in some steps of the tying.
