MORGANS HEART DUBBING

BLENDED DUBBING FOR MODERN NYMPHS AND PATTERNS FOR SELECTIVE FISH

MORGANS HEART DUBBING is a blended dubbing developed primarily for modern nymphs and patterns intended for situations where fish are exposed to heavy angling pressure. Its distinctive blend creates bodies and thoraxes with subtle variations in colour and contrast, breaking up an otherwise uniform profile and allowing you to fine-tune the appearance of proven patterns.

Although designed primarily for nymphs, the material can be used across different stages of an aquatic insect's life cycle. It is equally suitable for wet flies, chironomids, emergers and dry flies. By varying the amount, colour and position of the dubbing, you can use it to form an entire body or simply introduce a contrasting section within the pattern.

SLIM BODIES AND THORAXES FOR SMALL NYMPHS

MORGANS HEART DUBBING can be applied directly to the tying thread with a light touch of wax, using only small amounts to create slim, well-proportioned bodies. It is particularly useful for small nymphs, where it gives you precise control over the bulk of the pattern even when combined with a relatively large tungsten bead.

According to the experience of our fly tyers, these combinations of a small body and relatively large tungsten bead have proved particularly effective when trout and grayling are less active or highly selective. The dubbing can also be used to build chironomid thoraxes and small contrast points, concentrating a minimal amount of material exactly where required without visually overloading the entire imitation.

FINE-TUNE PROVEN PATTERNS

One of the most interesting uses of MORGANS HEART DUBBING is to make targeted changes to the colour and contrast of an already successful pattern. In heavily fished water, it is not always necessary to change the entire fly. Sometimes adjusting the colour of the body or thorax, or adding a small contrast point, is enough while retaining the size and basic structure of the nymph.

This makes the material particularly versatile when tying different interpretations of the same pattern to suit water conditions, the time of year or the behaviour of the fish. It can be used throughout the fly or restricted to a single section, allowing you to move from relatively subtle patterns to versions with more pronounced contrast.

FROM NYMPHS TO EMERGERS

The versatility of MORGANS HEART DUBBING means it is not limited to conventional weighted nymphs. On wet flies and emergers it can be used for bodies and thoraxes, while on small chironomids it creates a clearly defined thorax without adding excessive bulk. Used sparingly, it can also be incorporated into dry flies, allowing you to maintain similar colour schemes across imitations of different stages of the same insect.

Among the available colours, blue deserves a special mention: in the experience of our fly tyers, it has proved particularly effective in nymphs for grayling, especially when used selectively as a colour accent within the pattern.
