XO FLY REEL
UNIQUE DESIGN AND POWERFUL REEL DRAG
The fly reels in the XO series are undoubtedly absolute high-end tools, not only in terms of their technical features, but also in terms of their distinctive and minimalist design.
When designing these fly reels, the product developers at Vision have taken material minimalism to the extreme. The filigree spokes, which fork out again towards the outside, ensure that these fly reels remain wonderfully light despite their modern large arbor construction and the corresponding diameters. Despite the extremely reduced use of material, the spoke structure ensures adequate stability and strength so that each reel size can easily cope with all loads in its respective area of use. In order to be sufficiently torsion-resistant even in the high line classes, the reel models from line class #7/8 have a closed reel frame. This also prevents the comparatively fine and thin running lines from accidentally getting between the spool and reel frame, where they can wrap around the axle and jam the reel. Another advantage of this very airy reel design is the fact that backing and fly line can dry immediately.
Successful design can be recognised above all by the details and, on closer inspection of the XO fly reels, it is noticeable on the spool that an additional counterweight, which is normally attached opposite the reel handle, is missing. In order to maintain the aesthetics of the reel as far as possible, this reel does not have an external counterweight and instead a small area of the opposite reel wall has not been milled. This is sufficient to allow the reel to run absolutely round and impact-free on the reel axle. This small area is also ideal for immortalising the XO logo on the reel, as the filigree design means that there are practically no suitable areas on the rest of the reel.
FIRST-CLASS TECHNICAL FEATURES
All XO fly reel models have an outstanding disc drag system, which is sealed and therefore optimally protected against external influences and therefore works reliably in all situations and conditions. The drag resistance is tuned to the respective line class and area of application and can be precisely adjusted. The protruding drag button is very easy to grip thanks to the ribbed bars.
The large arbor spool design of these fly reels has two advantages. On the one hand, it minimises the memory effect of the fly line so that it curls much less and you can cast your flies further and more precisely. On the other hand, the large inner diameter ensures that you can retrieve more line per revolution, so that you can spool up the loose line faster in the event of a bite and drill the fish using the reel brake. This is extremely helpful, especially in the higher line classes, to parry the wild escapes of capital fish.
Despite the large arbour design, all models have sufficient line capacity so that you can spool up enough backing material in addition to the fly lines of the respective line class.
The XO fly reels are made of high-quality aluminium and are CNC-milled from a solid block. The surface is anodised and has a titanium-coloured finish. These fly reels are supplied in a neoprene bag.
THE INDIVIDUAL MODELS
XO #5/6: the smallest and lightest fly reel in this series. Perfectly suited for universal fly fishing with dry flies, nymphs and streamers. It is the only model in the XO series to be equipped with an EVA reel handle and an open reel frame. In addition to the standard XO colour Titanium, it is also available in other colours.
XO #7/8: one size larger, it has a larger line capacity as well as a closed reel frame and a sturdy plastic reel handle with three silicone rings for optimum grip. Ideal for fly fishing with large streamers and fly fishing in Stillwater.
XO #8/9: is equipped with the same solid drag system as the reels in the high line classes, but with adapted drag power. It is ideal for all types of fly fishing with single-handed rods in high line classes as well as switch rods.
XO #9/10, #10/12 & #12+: the largest and most powerful models within the XO family. The perfect reels for heavy salmon fishing and all saltwater fly-fishing applications, even on the biggest fish species. You can absolutely rely on this reel drag in any situation, as it delivers a very linear drag force of up to a massive 8 kg in a maximum of 2.5 revolutions. These reels use axle seals from the German company INA and ball bearings from Japanese production to ensure a watertight seal.
