TENKARA LEVEL LINE - FINE SILK LINE FOR TRADITIONAL TENKARA FISHING
The TENKARA LEVEL LINE from Pêche à Soie is produced in France and consists of 100% pure natural silk of grade 5A. This classic silk line with its constant diameter (Level Line) has been specially developed for use on Tenkara rods. The soft silk line is characterised by its special sensitivity and lightness and is therefore perfectly suited to the traditional technique of tenkara fishing. To make the most of these exceptional properties, we recommend that you use the line ungreased. Since the majority of the main line does not touch the water anyway, it is not necessary to grease the entire length of the line.
PROPERLY GREASE THE TENKARA LEVEL LINE
If you still want to grease your TENKARA LEVEL LINE, it is sufficient to treat the first 20 to 30 cm of the tip with the supplied line grease. Ideally, you should apply the line grease to the dry line tip the day before. This will allow the silk to absorb the grease and you can remove any excess grease with a clean cloth. In this way you ensure that the line tip is well greased and therefore buoyant, but at the same time the silk line is not unnecessarily weighed down by the excess grease, so that the wonderful properties of this line are preserved.
Only use the grease supplied with the TENKARA LEVEL LINE for the treatment. We strongly advise against the use of greases containing silicone in particular. The enclosed tin contains 10 grams of line grease, which will last for a long time if used properly. This special grease is pH neutral and food safe, so it is completely harmless to the environment. As the line grease has an almost solid consistency (NLGI class 3) at room temperature, it is best applied by taking up a small amount with your thumb and forefinger and gently rubbing it into the silk line with both fingers.
HOW TO FIX THE TENKARA LEVEL LINE TO THE LILIAN
At the back end, the TENKARA LEVEL LINE has a sufficiently large, prefabricated loop that allows you to attach it to the lilian (the short webbing band at the tip of the tenkara rod) very easily using the traditional tenkara knot, and to remove it just as quickly. To do this, simply fold the loop over the silk line (girth knot), thread the lilian of your tenkara rod into the resulting loop and pull it tight. This creates a simple, direct and firm connection. A small stopper knot at the front end of the lilian provides additional security.
The TENKARA LEVEL LINE is supplied in a length of 6 metres and can be shortened individually depending on the rod length used, the waters fished, personal preference and taste. To find the ideal length, we recommend that you first cut the silk line so that it is about 30-40 cm longer than the Tenkara rod with which it will be fished. Make a few test casts and gradually shorten the line by 10 cm at a time until you find the length that suits you.
DRY AFTER EACH USE TO EXTEND LIFE
Like all silk lines, TENKARA LEVEL LINE should be carefully dried after each fishing trip by leaving it to air dry in a shaded area. Please do not use a hair dryer or other sources of heat.
