A SPECIAL CONICAL KNOTTED LEADER
In the past the main goal in dry fly fishing was to lay the leader completely stretched, placing the fly in the chosen spot with delicacy and precision. The task of managing the various currents to avoid dragging the fly was entirely managed with the fly line.
Over the years, however, things have changed and today there are casting techniques and special leaders that allow the latter to play an active part in managing the fly's drift. All this is possible thanks to the skilful and proven use of the lengths and diameters of nylon that make up the leader. In this way you will have an extra ally, in addition to the fly line, allowing you to let your fly drift in the most natural way and thus be super-attractive.
The SPECIAL DRY PLUS conical knotted leader is specifically designed for dry fly fishing and its highly proven taper makes it extremely versatile. You'll be able to cast very tight loops, stretching the entire leader in a progressive and delicate manner. But at the same time this leader allows you to make pile or curved casts to avoid the fly dragging in the current. This versatility allows you to deal with many different situations, making the SPECIAL DRY PLUS conical knot leader a valuable ally in taming any type of current.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
We can divide the knotted conical leader SPECIAL DRY PLUS into 4 parts, namely:
- Power
- Taper
- Micro ring
- Tippet
In the diagram below, the measurements in millimetres in the first line refer to the diameter of the nylon, while the remaining three lines refer to the lengths of the various sections used.

POWER: the section called "power" makes up 36% of the terminal and consists of a piece of 0.50 mm nylon, the purpose of which is to transmit all the energy produced by the fly line to subsequent sections of the leader.
TAPER: the section called the "taper" makes up another 36% of the terminal and consists of 3 pieces of nylon of different diameters, namely 0.40 mm, 0.30 mm and 0.20 mm. Their purpose is to take the energy generated previously and get it to the fly as gently and naturally as possible. In this case, the choice of lengths and diameters is crucial because the single pieces must have the right balance to each other to work best. Tested and proven parameters for the single sections have been used to set up this conical knot leader.
MICRO RING: the 2.5mm micro ring connects the leader to the tippet. This type of connection allows you to replace the tippet quickly and easily as many times as you wish without shorten the leader at every change.
TIPPET: the tippet is the piece of nylon to which the fly is connected. The smoother the energy is transmitted to the tippet, the more natural and delicate the fly will be laid. The conical knotted leader SPECIAL DRY PLUS has a 0.16 mm tippet already attached which forms the remaining 28% of the whole leader length. This last part is perfectly balanced with the rest of the leader and will thus give you excellent results as it is. Having said this, you can of course modify the tippet at will by replacing it with fluorocarbon, for example, or you can modify its length and diameter to better adapt it to the type of stream or the size of the fly you are using.
CONCLUSION
The SPECIAL DRY PLUS conical knotted leader is handmade by professionals. The knots are tied reliably, and the nylon used is of high quality with a very low memory effect. It is sold in three different lengths: 3, 4 and 5 metres, to deal effectively with all situations.
