A fly patch is ideal if you like to change your flies often to find the most catching pattern. Then you can store the flies on the fly patch in the meantime and have them just as quickly at hand again without having to rummage in your pockets for the right fly box. Your flies also dry very quickly on the fly patch and can then be put back into the appropriate fly box or are ready for use again if they are dry flies. If you have a more minimalistic approach on the water and only need a few fly patterns, a fly patch is usually sufficient to carry the necessary patterns.
