Summer Fishing Camps in Spain for Kids and Teens

“MORE FISHING, LESS SMARTPHONE”

In recent years, summer camps have evolved beyond traditional activities. For many young people, summer camps are an opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and explore new hobbies. Among these activities, fishing has found a special place as a tool for learning, personal growth, and connecting with nature.

One of the best options can be found in Spain, where Adrián Satué and his team organize international fishing camps with English and Spanish classes in the Pyrenees via Fishing Summer Camps.

If you want your children to enjoy a vacation pursuing their favorite hobby while learning languages, international fishing camps in Spain are the perfect choice. Located in Barruera, in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, these camps allow children and teens aged 10 to 18 to learn how to fish for different species, practice Spanish and English, and participate in educational and recreational activities. Everything is conducted in a safe environment, with highly qualified guides and transfer service from Barcelona. It’s a unique experience to connect with nature, make friends, and take a break from screens.

1. AN INTERNATIONAL AND MULTICULTURAL EXPERIENCE

Our camps are international, with an approximate 50/50 split between Spanish and foreign participants. This diversity allows campers to interact, share experiences, and learn languages naturally, using English as a common language while also practicing Spanish in daily life. The camp also offers two hours of Spanish classes three days per week, reinforcing integration and learning.

This multicultural environment is highly enriching, helping young people develop communication skills, empathy, and cultural openness while enjoying fishing and making friends from around the world.

2. FISHING FOR ALL LEVELS AND AMAZING SPECIES

Participants can fish for incredible species such as catfish over two meters long (the largest in Europe), trout, black bass, perch, carp, and barbel. All fishing equipment is included, from rods and reels to waders, boots, nets, and lures. No prior experience is required: we teach from scratch and adapt techniques to each child’s skill level. Each guide works with four children, and on catfish fishing days an extra guide is added to ensure safety and personalized attention.

Additionally, campers learn fly fishing, spinning, casting techniques, knot tying, and tackle assembly, making the learning process practical and fun.

3. EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Beyond fishing, campers engage in activities that combine fun and learning:

  • Fly-tying and fishing technique workshops
  • Spanish and English lessons
  • Visits to wildlife centers and fish farms, including river restocking with forest rangers
  • Guided nature trails through Aigüestortes National Park and Sant Maurici Lake

4. PERSONALIZED ATTENTION AND SAFE CAMPS

To ensure safety and effective learning, we maintain a ratio of 1 guide per 4 children (1 per 2 on catfish fishing days). This allows for personalized, inclusive, and safe camps, adapting teaching to each participant’s level and needs. Guides are highly qualified professionals with backgrounds in Environmental Sciences, Outdoor Physical Activity, Environmental Education, and Flora and Fauna Management, with extensive experience in natural environments.

5. FISHING AS A TOOL FOR MINDFULNESS, WELLBEING, AND PERSONAL GROWTH

Fishing goes beyond recreation: it encourages concentration, patience, and mindfulness, which are especially beneficial for neurodivergent profiles such as ADHD and ASD. Learning to cast, prepare tackle, or wait for a bite helps develop focus, self-control, and presence in the moment.

Moreover, practicing fishing in nature reduces digital overstimulation, promotes calm, and strengthens self-esteem and social skills, as children work in teams and follow rules in a fun way. All participants benefit from a combination of physical activity, learning about wildlife and river conservation, and connecting with the natural environment.

6. COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATION AND DAILY LIFE

Campers stay at Hostal Noray in Barruera, in shared rooms for four, with private bathrooms and bedding included. Full board covers all meals, adapted to special dietary needs. Each day combines fishing, classes, and activities, with supervised free time and opportunities to stay in touch with family. Safety is a top priority, including transport protocols, support vehicles, and liability and accident insurance.

Our camps focus on four main objectives:

  • Enjoy fishing safely
  • Learn and progress in different fishing techniques
  • Promote environmental values and catch-and-release fishing
  • Integrate fishing with educational content on Natural Sciences and practical skills

8. PRACTICAL INFORMATION AND DATES

  • Ages: 10 to 18 years
  • Duration: 1, 2, or 3 weeks (7 days / 6 nights per week)
  • Dates: Late June, July, August, and early September
  • Price: €1,490 per week

In May 2024, due to the rain and the thaw in Trentino Alto Adige and the surrounding area, I decided to improvise a fishing trip by car to Austria and Slovenia, passing through some streams in South Tyrol and Veneto. In the first few days of the trip we managed to fish some small streams in Italy and Austria with moderate success, so we decided to continue with the search for new places to fish and get to know.

Our adventure at Lake Nembia was an experience full of challenges and lessons. We discovered that, despite the abundant presence of trout, catching them can be anything but easy. The crystal-clear waters of the lake, combined with the selective nature of the fish, put us to the test, forcing us to constantly review our techniques and experiment with a wide range of flies and streamers.
