The fly tying vise FLYLAB C CLAMP, produced by the Italian company Stonfo, is a product with excellent construction qualities but thanks to its simplicity it is sold at a really interesting price.
This vise is particularly suitable if you are a beginner and you want to start tying your first artificial flies, in fact you will spend little but you will take home a high quality product. Made of solid stainless steel and aluminium it is very strong and you won't feel the need to change it as soon as you have acquired some manual skills.
The jaw (FIG. 3-A) is housed inside a cylinder made from a single block of stainless steel (FIG. 3-B), able to rotate 360°. Thanks to the drag knob (FIG. 3-C) you can adjust the rotation in 3 different ways: free, medium block and total block.
Free: by loosening the drag knob as much as possible, the hook will be completely free to rotate 360° without any friction.
Medium lock: When the drag knob is half tightened, the hook will always be free to rotate 360° but will lock in the 0° position (FIG. 4) and 180° position (FIG. 5). To unlock it from these two positions and continue with the rotation, simply apply a little more force.
Total lock: By fully tightening the drag knob, the hook will lock in the chosen position.
The FLYLAB C CLAMP comes with 1 medium interchangeable jaw that allows you to tie artificial flies on hooks ranging from 8 to 24 (other jaw can be purchased separately). Fixing the hook is very quick and easy and the grip on it is really tough. To do this you need to bring the drag knob (FIG. 3-C) to total lock, then turning the rear crank anti-clockwise will open the jaws, vice versa they will close.
Continuing to rotate the rear crank anti-clockwise with the friction knob always in total lock, you will be able to unscrew the jaw and then replace it with one of the other 2 available jaws (purchasable separately).
Using the Allen key provided (FIG. 6-D), the inclination of the vise head can be adjusted as desired.
Inside the Package you will find a practical spring material clip that allows you to move the tying thread, hackles or any other fly tying material that you do not need at the moment to pick it up later and continue with the tying. This allows you to be freer and more relaxed in some particular tying step.
The dimensions of Stonfo's FLYLAB C CLAMP are very small (FIG. 9) and can be easily stored in a drawer or bag. The table clamp has a fairly wide opening (FIG. 10) which allows you to fix it easily on most work tables. With this system you will have maximum stability during fly tying.
It is possible to purchase the pedestal base separately, moreover the FLYLAB C CLAMP is compatible with all the accessories of the Stonfo line.
