HARE DUBBING is a very soft hare's hair that is extremely easy to attach to the tying thread with wax. It is used to tie bodies and thoraxes of dry flies, wet flies and nymphs. This dubbing is made up of very soft fibres mixed with slightly stiffer fibres which tend to come out when wrapped around the hook, thus imitating the legs of the real insect.
It is possible to create very compact or fluffy strand to give more volume to the artificial fly. Remember that the more compact the dubbing strand is, the less water it will absorb, while the fluffier it is, the more water it will tend to absorb, which will affect the final weight of the fly. Consequently, for dry flies it is best to create fairly compact strand.
