Fly tying craft fur

Craft Fur: synthetic fur with wonderfully long, soft hair

Here you will find high-quality synthetic fur, so-called Craft Fur, which has been specially produced according to our specifications and is ideally suited for creating wonderful streamers on the fly-tying vise. Unlike cheap fur imitations, our Craft Fur has wonderfully long hairs that play absolutely seductively as the streamer undulates through the water. The shorter and denser underfur, however, ensures that you can add volume and a very lively-looking silhouette to your streamer patterns. Our first-class Craft Fur is colourfast as well as lightfast and will not fade after frequent use in the water or from the UV rays of sunlight. It is also very easy to colour individually with waterproof felt markers. And last but not least, it is also very easy to work with and can be combined with many other natural or artificial fly-tying materials. If you like tying beautiful and catchy streamers, our Craft Fur should not be missing from your tying table.

CRAFT FUR FOR FLY TYING

WHAT IS CRAFT FUR

CRAFT FUR is a versatile synthetic fur, particularly suitable for trout streamers, black bass, pike, salmon or sea flies and can be used effectively for making tails, bodies and heads.

Finding quality CRAFT FUR in today's market is quite difficult and what you do find is generally of low quality, difficult to tie with and with fairly short fibres that prevent you from making large streamers. For this reason we are happy to offer in our online fly fishing shop a CRAFT FUR made to Hotfly specifications, therefore with perfect characteristics for fly tying.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CRAFT FUR

The long and soft fibres of the CRAFT FUR give the artificial fly a very sinuous and enticing movement. It is generally used as a good substitute for bucktail, marabou or calf tail. As well as being an excellent substitute for these products on a technical level, it is also slightly cheaper. For the reasons just described, this is a synthetic fur that is at its best in medium-high waters, where its seductive movement can be fully exploited.

The surface fibres are very long, around 8 to 10 centimetres, and there is just the right amount of underfur present to allow you to taper the profile of your streamers very well and add volume if desired. When tying, you don't have to worry about messy or ruffled hairs, you can easily shape them to the desired shape at the end of the tying process, using a comb or simply your fingers.

As it is a synthetic fur, it does not absorb water, so you will only need a few false casts to dry it completely. In this way, streamers made with CRAFT FUR will be very easy to cast, even if you are a novice fly fisherman.

Hotfly's CRAFT FUR is of high quality, very durable and will not discolour in water or under the UV rays of the sun. It is also easily coloured with a permanent marker in case you want to add extra baring. With a little special glue you can attach light eyes to make your artificial fly even more realistic and captivating. This synthetic fur is perfect for combining with fly tying material such as crystal flash or sili legs.

CRAFT FUR TYING TECHNIQUES

Tying streamers with CRAFT FUR is easier than you think. The secret is to tie it to the hook little by little, adding layer upon layer until you reach the desired size. To create tapered and realistic minnow bodies, each layer should be tied to the hook with the fibres facing backwards, while the last layers should be tied to the hook with the fibres facing the opposite way, towards the hook eye, and then tipped backwards. If necessary you can easily cut off the longer fibres for use in a split thread tecnique.

This sounds very complicated but if you have a look at our fly tying tutorials you will see that it is easier than you think.
